A 10KM road race celebrating endurance, health, and community in Sabongida-Ora, Edo State
The Owan Marathon is an exciting and growing annual 10 km road race held in Sabongida-Ora, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. Organized by Christopher Ojo under the Global Bridge Initiative, the marathon has evolved from a local community event into a significant platform for discovering young athletic talent.
What began modestly has matured into a festival combining sport, culture, and community development. The marathon is designed to challenge athletes while showcasing the beautiful scenery of this region, including its vibrant towns and welcoming communities.
The vision from the outset was not only to hold a local race but to "groom to stardom" â training top finishers and channeling them to national and international competitions. About 20 athletes identified in earlier editions have gone on to compete in bigger events like the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
