1. Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risk

1.1 Understanding of Marathon Running

I acknowledge that I am voluntarily participating in the Owan Marathon 2026 ("Event"). I understand that marathon and distance running is an extreme test of physical endurance that may result in serious injury or death.

1.2 Voluntary Participation

I acknowledge that I am participating in this event voluntarily and at my own risk. I understand that the Organizers cannot eliminate all risks associated with marathon running.

2. Medical Fitness and Health Declarations

2.1 Medical Clearance

I certify that:

• I am physically fit and have trained adequately for the distance I am undertaking
• I have no medical conditions that would prevent safe participation
• I will immediately report any health concerns to race officials
• I will stop participating if I feel unwell or unsafe

2.2 Emergency Medical Treatment

I authorize the Event organizers and their representatives to:

• Provide or arrange for emergency medical treatment if I am unable to consent
• Share my medical information with emergency medical personnel
• Make decisions regarding my immediate medical care if I am incapacitated

3. Release of Claims and Waiver of Liability

3.1 General Release

In consideration for being allowed to participate in the Owan Marathon 2026, I hereby release, waive, discharge, and hold harmless the following parties ("Released Parties") from any and all claims, damages, or liability:

3.2 Scope of Release

This release covers all claims whether arising from:

• Negligence of the Released Parties
• Dangerous conditions of the premises or course
• Equipment failure or malfunction
• Actions or inactions of other participants
• Weather conditions or acts of nature
• Any other cause related to my participation in the event

4. Indemnification

I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• My participation in the event
• My breach of this agreement
• My violation of any law or regulation
• My actions that result in injury to others

5. Photography and Media Consent

I consent to the use of my name, voice, and likeness in:

• Photographs, videos, and audio recordings
• Live broadcasts and streaming
• Social media and promotional materials
• News coverage and media reports

I understand that I will not receive compensation for such use and that all media becomes the property of the event organizers.

6. Rules and Regulations Compliance

I agree to:

• Follow all event rules, regulations, and instructions
• Comply with decisions of race officials and medical personnel
• Conduct myself in a safe and sportsmanlike manner
• Not participate if under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances

7. Personal Property

I understand that the organizers are not responsible for:

• Lost, stolen, or damaged personal property
• Items left in bag check or transition areas
• Vehicles or items left in parking areas

8. Modification of Event

I understand that the organizers may:

• Modify the course or event format for safety reasons
• Cancel or postpone the event due to circumstances beyond their control
• Remove me from the event if I violate rules or pose a safety risk

9. Legal Jurisdiction and Governing Law

This agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any legal proceedings must be brought in the courts of Edo State, Nigeria.

10. Severability

If any part of this agreement is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining portions shall continue in full force and effect.
