1. General Terms

1.1 Event Organization

The Owan Marathon 2026 is organized by the Owan Marathon Committee ("Organizers") and will take place on January 4th, 2025, in Owan East and Owan West, Edo State, Nigeria.

1.2 Acceptance of Terms

Participation in the Owan Marathon is subject to these Terms and Conditions. By registering for the event, participants ("Participants") agree to comply with all rules, regulations, and instructions provided by the Organizers.

2. Registration and Payment

2.1 Registration Requirements

• Participants must be at least 16 years old on the event date
• Participants under 18 must provide parental/guardian consent
• All registration information must be accurate and complete
• Registration is only confirmed upon receipt of full payment

2.2 Registration Fees

• Full Marathon (42.195km): ₦15,000
• Half Marathon (21.1km): ₦10,000
• 10K Fun Run (10km): ₦5,000

2.3 Payment Terms

Registration fees must be paid within 7 days of registration. Failure to pay within this period may result in cancellation of registration. All fees are non-refundable except as outlined in Section 6.

3. Race Day Rules and Regulations

3.1 Race Categories and Start Times

The event starts at 6:00 AM WAT with staggered starts for different categories. Participants must be present at the designated assembly areas 30 minutes before their category start time.

3.2 Course Rules

• Participants must follow the designated race route at all times
• Cutting the course or taking shortcuts is strictly prohibited
• Participants must obey all race officials and volunteers
• Use of unauthorized vehicles, bicycles, or other wheeled devices is prohibited
• Participants who drop out must report to the nearest aid station

3.3 Time Limits

• Full Marathon: 7 hours
• Half Marathon: 4 hours
• 10K Fun Run: 2 hours

4. Health and Medical Requirements

4.1 Medical Fitness

Participants confirm they are in good physical condition and have trained adequately for their chosen race distance. It is recommended that participants consult with a healthcare provider before participating.

4.2 Medical Assistance

Medical support will be available throughout the course. Participants requiring medical attention must comply with medical personnel instructions, including withdrawal from the race if deemed necessary.

4.3 Medical Information

Participants are encouraged to provide relevant medical information during registration to ensure appropriate emergency care if needed.

5. Code of Conduct

5.1 Participant Behavior

Participants must:

• Conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner
• Respect other participants, volunteers, officials, and spectators
• Follow all local laws and regulations
• Respect the environment and local communities
• Not engage in any form of cheating or unsportsmanlike conduct

5.2 Prohibited Items

The following items are prohibited during the race: weapons, alcoholic beverages, illegal substances, unauthorized vehicles, and any items deemed dangerous by race officials.

6. Cancellation and Refund Policy

6.1 Event Cancellation

If the event is cancelled due to circumstances beyond the Organizers' control (including but not limited to severe weather, natural disasters, or government restrictions), participants may be entitled to:

• Transfer to the following year's event, or
• Partial refund (up to 70% of registration fee) after deducting administrative costs

6.2 Participant Cancellation

Registration fees are generally non-refundable. However, refunds may be considered in exceptional circumstances such as serious injury or medical conditions, subject to documentation and approval by the Organizers.

7. Liability and Risk

7.1 Assumption of Risk

Participants acknowledge that marathon running involves inherent risks and dangers. By participating, you assume all risks associated with the event.

7.2 Limitation of Liability

The Organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and affiliated parties shall not be liable for any injury, loss, damage, or expense incurred by participants, except where prohibited by law.

8. Photography and Media

8.1 Media Consent

Participants consent to the use of their name, voice, and likeness in photographs, videos, and other media for promotional purposes without compensation.

8.2 Personal Photography

Participants and spectators may take photographs and videos for personal use, provided they respect the privacy and dignity of others.

9. Intellectual Property

All event-related trademarks, logos, and materials are the property of the Organizers. Unauthorized commercial use is prohibited.

10. Privacy and Data Protection

Personal information collected during registration will be used for event administration and communication. The Organizers are committed to protecting participant privacy and will not share personal information with third parties except as necessary for event operations.

11. Force Majeure

The Organizers shall not be liable for failure to perform obligations due to circumstances beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, natural disasters, government actions, or public health emergencies.

12. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any disputes shall be resolved through the courts of Edo State, Nigeria.

13. Amendment and Updates

The Organizers reserve the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. Participants will be notified of significant changes via email or the official event website.
